Executive Producer of Overwatch 2 Chacko Sonny leaves Blizzard

Chacko Sonny, the Executive producer of Overwatch 2, is reportedly leaving Blizzard at the end of this week according to a new report from Jason Schreier of Bloomberg published on Tuesday. Sonny was with the company for five years, working first as a production director on Overwatch before being promoted to EP in 2018. Sonny's departure follows the resignation of Blizzard's Chief Legal Officer Claire Hart last Friday, which was announced in a LinkedIn post on Monday.

Sonny is the latest member of the Overwatch team to leave Blizzard as Overwatch 2 is under development. The former director of Overwatch 2 Jeff Kaplan also left earlier this year for unknown reasons, and the original Overwatch Lead Writer Michael Chu left the company in March of 2020. The high level of staff turnover in the Overwatch team is concerning for fans who are hoping Overwatch 2 will be a hit, though little is known about the behind-the-scenes situation on the game.

Blizzard's significant staff upheaval comes amid a major gender discrimination lawsuit filed against the company by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing. That complaint has sparked numerous follow-up actions from Blizzard's employees, Blizzard's investors, and most recently the Security and Exchange Commission who reportedly sent subpoenas to multiple Activision Blizzard executives including CEO Bobby Kotick in a now federal investigation of their workplace conditions and disclosures.
