Two weeks have come and gone in the Overwatch League.

While the meta still needs to be ironed out, players are starting to make a huge presence. Flank boops, huge Deadeyes, and clutch Earthshatters are a few of the highlights we have seen for the past two weeks. All-star players stood out for their consistent play and rising stars impressed with explosive plays. After two weeks of OWL, these players are recognized for their outstanding performances.

DPS

Jae-hyeok "Carpe" Lee

The perennial veteran for the Philadelphia Fusion still wreaks havoc amongst teams in the league. Due to last year's GOATS meta, the DPS player was mostly an afterthought. With this year being a fresh start for all teams, a rejuvenated Carpe is here for the Fusion. In the first game of the season against the Washington Justice, Carpe was unleashed. When the Fusion had their backs against the wall, Carpe could not resist but make a switch to his signature Widowmaker.

He cleaned up the Justice, leading to a 3-1 victory for the Fusion. Carpe continued to play extraordinarily well against the Florida Mayhem in the next day. Even when the meta did not favor Philadelphia last season, Carpe had no rust whatsoever. Carpe is going to continue being the all-star player for Philadelphia. Despite the season being in its' early stages, Carpe could be the Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok of OWL this year.

Seung-jun "WhoRU" Lee

After years in Contenders, WhoRU finally got to show what he is made of in OWL. Not only has he impressed many analysts during the first week of OWL, he also dazzled the New York fans. His “a-Mei-zing” play on both games against the London Spitfire and Boston Uprising helped NYXL to wins. Under mentors like Jong-ryeol "Saebyeolbe" Park and Dong-gyu "Mano" Kim, WhoRU’s trajectory as a star player is on the rise.

Tank

Hong-joon "HOTBA" Choi

Another newcomer for the New York Excelsior continues to impress dating back to last season. In 2019, HOTBA was recognized for his phenomenal Sigma play with he was on the Guangzhou Charge. His performances carried the Charge’s confidence from Stage 4 to the playoffs. Now that he is with NYXL this season, he can show his versatility with this squad. The first game against the London Spitfire showed what his potential could be — an all-star.

The off-tank stand out showed not only he is good with Sigma, he is also flexible with D.Va. As the match against London went on, his D.Va bombs felt bigger with the way the crowd reacted. If you can get a crowd to chant your name in one of the biggest cities in the world, you have something right going on with your life.

Su-min "SADO" Kim

SADO was not the best tank in the league by a mile in previous seasons. There were critics on social media platforms saying things like “SADO is going to feed” or “Replace SADO with a competent main tank”. Overall, people were predicting that SADO would fail. However, something lit a fire underneath SADO and his teammate Carpe to prove his doubters wrong this season.

Timely Earthshatters and aggressive charges were critical to the Fusion’s wins against the Washington Justice and Florida Mayhem. Without SADO’s presence, Carpe probably would not have popped off in those matches in the way that he did. If these first couple of games are indicative of how SADO is going to perform this season, buy all the SADO stocks.

Support

Brice "FDGod" Monsçavoir

One of the newest acquisitions for the Paris Eternal had to earn his place in the roster. He was known last year at the Overwatch World Cup playing for Team France. Against the best in the world, FDGod held his own. No one expected FDGod to exceed expectations coming into this season, but here we are.

His plays on Lucio were beautiful to look at against Toronto Defiant and London Spitfire. While the opposition focused on his teammate Ki-hyo "Xzi" Jung, FDGod can flank to the backline. If you blinked, you would miss that he got three environmental kills on Ilios. He was vital to Paris’ win against London and could prove to be an all-star support player if he can continue to adapt.

Minho "Architect" Park

For a player that was given a 24-hour notice to start over Minki "Viol2t" Park versus the Dallas Fuel, Architect did a great job on Ana. His constant annoyance with sleep darts on the Dallas Fuel allowed his teammates to gain the advantage. Of course, Viol2t could have been in the starting roster in this match as he was an all-star last season, but the Shock has a deep roster.

Flexibility is a must for this team depending on the situation. If Shock’s head coach Dae-hee "Crusty" Park can have confidence putting in Architect in short notice, it means bad news for the rest of the league.
